2-year-old Georgia mauled to death by dogs after being left unattended by babysitter

Police in Georgia are investigating the tragic death of a 2-year-old boy who was killed in a dog attack while under the care of a babysitter. On Saturday, Valdosta Police, along with firefighters and medical personnel, responded to a call at a house located in the 3800 block of Pecan Drive after reports of a dog attack.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they found that Kaimir Jones had already died. Investigators suspect that Stacy Wheeler Cobb, 48, was operating an unlicensed daycare at her home at the time of the incident. According to the Valdosta Police Department (VPD), Jones’ mother had entrusted her son to Cobb for childcare, but police believe he had been left unattended for over two hours.

Cobb told WALB that she had been napping and believed Jones was fine when she fell asleep. However, during that time, the toddler managed to get outside and open a kennel that housed two large Rottweiler dogs. Police say the dogs then mauled Jones, resulting in his death.

Cobb has since been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children. While Jones was the only child at Cobb’s home at the time of the attack, investigators revealed that Cobb typically cares for around 10 children on most days.

Lowndes County Animal Control officers took the two Rottweilers, as well as a third dog that was present at the house, into custody. VPD officials stated that detectives are continuing to process evidence and expect additional charges to be filed.

A GoFundMe account has been set up by Jones’ mother to help with funeral expenses and support the family during this difficult time.
