Queen Camilla and King Charles are reportedly at odds over her request for significant changes to the ongoing renovations at Buckingham Palace. According to a recent report, the Queen Consort is advocating for a permanent library to be included in the major renovation project, which has already sparked tension between the royal couple.
An insider revealed that Camilla views the library as an essential cultural legacy for the monarchy. Despite the palace having 775 rooms, it currently lacks a formal library, which Camilla believes is a glaring omission.
“Books and reading have always been central to Camilla’s life, and she thinks it’s ridiculous that the monarch’s residence doesn’t include a library,” the source shared. “She’s made it clear to Charles that this is her single, most important request.”

However, the request has reportedly left King Charles frustrated. “The size and expense of the renovation are already weighing heavily on him, and her demand for an additional room drives him to distraction,” the insider added.
Another source noted that while Charles “admires” his wife’s commitment to promoting literacy, he “resents having palace plans challenged.” They also mentioned that the King feels Camilla is going against her own principle of staying out of structural decisions.
The disagreement highlights a deeper divide in priorities between the two. For Charles, the issue is one of tradition and practicality, while for Camilla, it’s about leaving a lasting cultural legacy.
“The Queen feels the monarchy has a duty to promote learning, and she wants a permanent library at Buckingham Palace to embody that belief,” the insider explained. “She considers it one of the most worthwhile features of the entire renovation.”

On the other hand, King Charles is reportedly concerned about the growing cost and disruption of the renovation. “Charles, on the other hand, feels the project is already expensive and disruptive without further additions,” the source said.
As the renovation of Buckingham Palace continues, this clash between the couple underscores the tension between tradition and modernity within the royal household.
