Indiana Man Allegedly Shoots Girlfriend in Front of Daughter, Claims It Was Suicide

An Indiana man has been taken into custody after allegedly shooting his girlfriend during a domestic dispute in front of her young daughter, authorities said. 20-year-old Tyairz Glover was arrested on Friday, September 26, after the fatal incident at the Amber Woods apartments in Indianapolis.

Court documents reviewed by the outlet show that Glover initially claimed his girlfriend, 19-year-old LaNya Anderson, had shot and killed herself. Witnesses at the scene, however, reportedly told investigators a different version of events.

Anderson was rushed to the hospital after the shooting but did not survive her injuries. Authorities later confirmed the shooting occurred in front of her child. Investigators also learned of a text message Glover allegedly sent to his mother shortly after the shooting. The message reportedly read, “He shot her [in] the head,” according to WXIN.

Glover’s mother later told police that her son struggled with mental health problems, had threatened violence against others, and had once said he would kill her. The tragedy has shaken the community and brought renewed attention to the dangers of domestic violence.

Danyette Smith, an awareness advocate with Indy Champions, said her daughter personally knew Anderson’s family. “I heard my own daughter’s friends crying, saying how they tried to help. They wanted to get her out. That’s devastating to hear as a mother,” Smith told IndyStar.

Smith urged the community to recognize the warning signs of abuse and to act before situations escalate. “We have to understand that having that education and awareness of what domestic violence red flags look like can ultimately save a life,” she said.

Anderson’s death is one of several recent domestic violence cases in Indianapolis that have sparked calls for more prevention resources and stronger support systems for victims. Advocates say stories like hers underscore the importance of intervention by friends, family, and community members when warning signs emerge.

Glover was booked into the Marion County Jail and is being held without bond. He now faces charges in connection with Anderson’s death. Prosecutors are expected to outline the full case against him in upcoming proceedings.

The case serves as a grim reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence, not only on victims but also on the children and families left behind. As the investigation continues, community leaders are calling for greater awareness and intervention efforts to prevent further tragedies.
