Julia Roberts and George Clooney talk about the challenges of parenting in the digital age

Julia Roberts and George Clooney have shared the screen many times, but in a recent interview, they opened up about a different role they both know well: parenting. Speaking with 72 Magazine via Us Weekly, the longtime friends and Oscar winners discussed the challenges of raising children in the digital age, especially when it comes to screen time.

Clooney, 64, who shares 8-year-old twins with wife Amal Clooney, admitted he often worries about balancing technology use at home. “I’m worried about my kids; we keep them off the internet as much as we can. But, you know, some of their homework is done on a computer,” he said. Turning to Roberts, he asked, “Did you limit their access to it or did you just talk it through?”

Roberts, 57, who has 18-year-old twins and a 20-year-old with her husband Danny Moder, explained that they were firm about boundaries. “When they were younger, certainly, Danny and I would have been considered some of the stricter parents,” she said, noting that their children were the last in their peer groups to get phones.

She emphasized that consistency between parents was crucial to creating a stable home environment. “Here’s the boundary of your life and it does not shift. You know, you don’t ask me and get an answer, and then go ask dad and get a different answer. That doesn’t happen. It will never happen,” Roberts said.

The Mona Lisa Smile actress added that she and Moder always approached parenting as a united front. That shared approach, she explained, provided “the stability that then allows them to feel secure.”

Beyond the topic of screen time, the Ticket to Paradise co-stars also reflected on raising children in the spotlight. Both agreed that instilling strong values matters far more than fame or recognition.

Clooney praised Roberts for the way she has raised her children while maintaining her career. He told her directly that she should feel proud of being such a dedicated mother and for raising “such great kids.”

The exchange revealed a candid side of two of Hollywood’s most recognizable figures, showing that even global stars wrestle with everyday parenting challenges. Whether it’s limiting screen time or setting firm boundaries, both actors highlighted the universal concerns parents face in today’s digital world.
