Prince Harry Says He’s “Privileged to Attend” WellChild Awards, But Meeting King Charles May Not Happen

Prince Harry is set to return to Britain next month, but hopes of reuniting with his father, King Charles, appear uncertain. The Duke of Sussex has confirmed he will attend the WellChild Awards in London on September 8.

Harry has been Patron of WellChild for 17 years, supporting its mission to improve the lives of children with serious health needs. Speaking about the upcoming event, Harry said, “I am always privileged to attend the WellChild Awards and meet the incredible children, families and professionals who inspire us all with their strength and spirit.

For 20 years these Awards have highlighted the courage of young people living with complex health needs and shone a light on the devoted caregivers – family and professionals – who support them every step of the way. Their stories remind us of the power of compassion, connection and community.”

Reports suggest Harry is eager to see his father, whose health has been under intense public scrutiny. However, royal expert Jennie Bond has cast doubt on whether a meeting will take place.

“We have all become quite used to Harry coming and going without seeing his family,” Bond said. “His visits are generally extremely brief and the King is usually up in Scotland for the anniversary of his mother‘s death. So arranging a meeting may not be straightforward.”

The timing of the WellChild event coincides with a period when King Charles is traditionally in Scotland, raising concerns that their schedules may not align.

Harry’s trips to the U.K. have often been short, with limited or no interaction with senior members of the royal family. The possibility of another missed meeting with his father underscores the ongoing strains between the Duke and the monarchy.

For now, Harry’s focus will be on WellChild, where he will celebrate the courage of children and families facing immense challenges. Whether he will also be able to spend time with King Charles remains unclear, leaving questions about the state of their personal relationship.
