Snoop Dogg is under fire after making controversial remarks about queer representation in children’s movies. The 53-year-old rapper admitted during a podcast appearance that he felt uncomfortable watching Disney’s Lightyear with his grandson after seeing a same-sex couple portrayed on screen.
Speaking on the podcast It’s Giving, Snoop said he was caught off guard when the character Alisha Hawthorne appeared with her wife and child. He recalled his grandson turning to him during the film with questions.
“They’re like, ‘She had a baby with another woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’” Snoop told listeners.
The rapper admitted he struggled to respond. “I just came to watch the movie, I didn’t come in for this. They just said she and she had a baby, they’re both women. How does she have a baby?” he said, adding that the moment “threw him for a loop.”

Snoop went on to say the experience left him uneasy about going back to the cinema. He questioned whether such themes should be presented to children, suggesting the storyline left him confused about how to explain it to a young audience.
His comments quickly sparked backlash online. Many fans criticized the rapper for what they saw as outdated views. One social media user wrote, “Snoop being the biggest disappointment ever was not on my bingo card.” Another added, “God forbid kids see representation and parents have to actually talk to them about it.”
Others pointed to generational attitudes as part of the issue. “It’s because people of his generation refuse to educate themselves. They are too lazy to learn and then fail to guide the children they claim to be raising,” one critic said.

Some longtime followers expressed disappointment at his remarks. “Wow. I am so embarrassed that I ever liked him,” another fan commented.
The controversy highlights how depictions of same-sex families in children’s entertainment continue to generate debate. Lightyear, released in 2022, drew attention at the time for featuring a same-sex kiss, with supporters praising the moment as a step toward inclusion and critics accusing Disney of pushing an agenda.
For Snoop, his candid admission about feeling unsettled by the scene has put him at the center of a heated cultural conversation—one that shows no signs of fading as representation in media expands.
