Donald Trump unleashes late night Truth Social tirade after Putin summit

Donald Trump launched into a rapid series of Truth Social posts on Sunday evening, railing against critics of his Alaska summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, insulting a Democratic senator, and boasting about the flags outside the White House.

The president spent much of Sunday online, taking aim at MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace and pushing back against claims that the high-profile meeting with Putin was a failure. His commentary intensified as night fell, with one post directed squarely at Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut.

“The very unattractive (both inside and out!) Senator from Connecticut, Chris Murphy, said ‘Putin got everything that he wanted.’ Actually, ‘nobody got anything,’ too soon, but getting close,” Trump wrote. He followed by denouncing “stupid” people like Murphy and former national security adviser John Bolton, claiming they had made it harder to end the war.

Murphy, appearing earlier on NBC’s Meet the Press, called the summit “a disaster,” accusing Trump of handing Putin exactly what he wanted. “It was an embarrassment for the United States; it was a failure. Putin got everything he wanted,” Murphy told host Kristen Welker.

Trump struck back by calling Murphy a “lightweight” and insisting Putin would have preferred to meet anywhere but the United States. “The Fake News has been saying for 3 days that I suffered a ‘major defeat’… Actually, he would have loved doing the meeting anywhere else but the U.S., and the Fake News knows this. It was a major point of contention!”

He argued that the media would have criticized him no matter where the summit was held. The event marked the first time Putin, who faces an International Criminal Court warrant for alleged war crimes, set foot in the United States in more than ten years.

Trump also previewed his Monday meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders. In one post, he wrote, “Big day at the White House tomorrow. Never had so many European Leaders at one time. My great honor to host them!!!”

But he added a warning, suggesting Ukraine should not expect NATO membership or the return of Crimea. “Remember how it started,” Trump wrote. “No getting back Obama given Crimea… and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE. Some things never change!!!”

Zelensky confirmed his arrival in Washington on Sunday night, emphasizing the urgency of peace. “We all share a strong desire to end this war quickly and reliably,” he posted on X. He added that Ukrainians would remain grateful for American and European support, declaring, “Russia must end this war, which it itself started.”
