Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson has praised Prince William as “absolutely fantastic,” recalling an encounter with the Prince of Wales that left a lasting impression. Speaking about their meeting, the Cruella star called William “kind and generous,” highlighting his warmth and humility in their interaction.
As quoted by The Mirror, Thompson gushed over the future King, saying, “Prince William was absolutely fantastic. I wrote him a fan letter afterwards. His face and body language were so kind and generous to every single person.” She went on to share that she has known William “since he was little, really,” revealing that she has always liked him.
Thompson also shared a humorous moment from their meeting. “I couldn’t believe how tall he’d gotten. I did say, ‘I suppose I better not kiss you,’ and he said, ‘Probably better not.’” The actress added that William was modest during their conversation, saying, “I asked him about him and he said, ‘Will you please stop talking about me, it’s about you.’ What a nice man,” she added fondly.
The actress also recalled another memorable moment with both Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, when they had a video call with Thompson and her Cruella co-star, Emma Stone. During the call, they discussed plans to host NHS charities together at a drive-in cinema screening of the film at Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Thompson added a lighthearted comment to Princess Kate, saying, “Wait till you see the clothes, it’s unbelievable,” and jokingly told her, “You’re going to want all of Emily’s [Emma Stone’s] clothes, they’re so amazing. Obviously you won’t be able to wear them in public, but they’re so brilliant.”
