Mary Trump Says Epstein Fallout Weakens Donald, But He’s “Not the Problem”

Mary L. Trump, niece of President Donald Trump and longtime critic of his administration, believes that although the Jeffrey Epstein files may seriously damage her uncle’s standing, the real threat lies beyond him.

Speaking during a live “Ask Me Anything” session on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the 60-year-old psychologist responded to a question about whether the explosive Epstein revelations could mark the beginning of the end for the MAGA movement.

“Maybe in the long term, but not in the short term,” Mary replied, emphasizing that the scandal, while damaging, would not immediately derail the powerful political machine her uncle has built. She acknowledged, however, that it could shake the foundations of Trump’s support base. “This goes right to the heart of his base,” she said.

Mary Trump, who rose to public prominence after publishing her 2020 book Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, pointed to the late Epstein’s ties to Trump as a source of renewed scrutiny. However, she expressed doubt that the former real estate mogul would ever face legal accountability, according to The Daily Beast.

“Even if it implicates him, nobody’s going to indict him,” she stated, referencing the 2024 Supreme Court ruling that grants presidents immunity from prosecution for “official acts.” More alarmingly, she suggested that even if the controversy does end Trump’s political career, the ideology he cultivated will endure.

“If it did kind of end his reign of power, J.D. Vance becomes president,” she warned, highlighting the Ohio senator and vice president as a torchbearer for Trumpism. “We need to remember this, it’s really important—I’m not saying this shouldn’t all play out, because of course it should,” she added. “What I’m saying is, Donald Trump isn’t the problem anymore.

That’s what I’m saying. And we need to be very, very clear about that.” Mary also discussed her uncle’s leadership style during his second term, noting that he’s surrounded himself with loyalists who support his MAGA platform unconditionally—unlike his first term, when internal resistance often tempered his impulses.

“Donald is acting like he’s always acted,” she said. “The arrogance was always there. The insecure defensiveness was always there. The bullying was always there.” She concluded by criticizing a bizarre speech Trump gave over the weekend, calling his statements about windmills “evidence of serious cognitive impairment.”
