Kelly Clarkson Explains Why She’s Done With Dating After Public Divorce

Kelly Clarkson is embracing single life and has no plans to return to the dating scene anytime soon. The 43-year-old singer and talk show host opened up candidly about her decision while performing on stage during her “Studio Sessions” residency at Caesars Palace’s Colosseum in Las Vegas over the weekend.

In a heartfelt moment between songs, Clarkson paused to chat with the audience and shared her personal reflections on relationships. Her remarks, captured in a video posted to TikTok on Sunday, July 20, offered fans a glimpse into her post-divorce mindset.

“Dating can be very difficult, which is why I don’t. It’s hard anyway, add a spotlight and it’s like a … dumpster fire,” the Since U Been Gone hitmaker told the crowd, drawing laughter and support from concertgoers. Clarkson’s comments come nearly five years after her high-profile split from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

The couple, who were married from 2013 until Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020, finalized the separation in 2022. They share two children: River Rose, 11, and Remington, 9. Since the divorce, Clarkson has remained transparent about her emotional journey and commitment to her family.

She was granted full primary custody of the children and relocated with them to New York City, where she continues to balance her career as a performer and daytime television personality. This isn’t the first time Clarkson has spoken openly about her decision to remain single.

Back in May, during an interview on Today With Jenna and Friends, she reiterated that she’s not currently interested in pursuing a relationship. “I’m very busy,” she explained at the time. “I’m not looking [for a partner].” Her remarks in Las Vegas reflect a similar sentiment: one of self-awareness, growth, and a desire to avoid the chaos that dating in the public eye can bring.

The scrutiny that comes with fame, Clarkson suggested, only amplifies the challenges already inherent in modern relationships. Despite the deeply personal nature of her comments, Clarkson delivered them with her signature wit and warmth, resonating with fans who appreciate her openness and honesty.

As her residency continues to draw crowds in Las Vegas, Clarkson’s blend of powerful performances and heartfelt moments only solidifies her standing, not just as a music icon, but as a voice of resilience for fans navigating love, loss, and life on their own terms.
