Prince William is said to feel deeply betrayed by his younger brother, Prince Harry, as tensions between the once-close siblings continue to escalate. According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, the Duke of Sussex harbors long-standing resentment toward William, stemming from years of personal and public differences.
In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Fitzwilliams shared his view that the brothers now share very little in common, and possibly less than ever before. “‘Spare’ made this pretty clear,” Fitzwilliams said, referring to Harry’s best-selling memoir. “Harry resented the way he was treated as a bit of a joker and the royal wild child.”
According to the expert, this perceived mistreatment has fueled a deeper emotional divide. Fitzwilliams noted that part of Harry’s resentment can be traced back to the trauma of losing their mother, Princess Diana, at such a young age. “He was traumatized by the death of his mother,” Fitzwilliams said, suggesting this pain may be the root cause of Harry’s concerns about personal security and broader royal responsibilities.
The release of Spare in early 2023 laid bare Harry’s frustrations with royal life, as well as his grievances about being treated as second-best in the shadow of his older brother, the future king.

Fitzwilliams explained that William’s sense of betrayal goes beyond the book. “William undoubtedly and rightly feels betrayed by Harry,” he said. “At the heart of this is the fact that he feels he cannot trust his brother or Meghan ever again.”
The expert’s remarks are echoed by royal commentator Hilary Fordwich, who added her own insight during the conversation. According to Fordwich, William is unlikely to envy or seek reconciliation with Harry, given the diverging paths their lives have taken.
“He has zero reason to ever want the… meaningless life his drifting brother has fallen into,” she said, making it clear that the future king views Harry’s post-royal life in America as directionless and devoid of purpose.
While the royal rift has been the subject of intense media scrutiny for years, these recent comments suggest that reconciliation between the brothers remains a distant possibility. With William focused on his royal duties alongside Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Harry continuing his public advocacy work with Meghan Markle in California, the gap between them appears to be growing, not narrowing.
For now, it seems the once inseparable princes are on separate paths, with wounds that may take far more than time to heal.
