Prince William and Harry Hit with Heartbreaking News That Brings Back Painful Memories of Diana

Prince William and Prince Harry have been hit with another wave of grief, this time over the death of someone who once played a special role during one of the last joyful summers they shared with their mum, Princess Diana.

Lee Sansum, a former bodyguard who looked after Diana and her boys shortly before her tragic death, has died aged 63 after suffering a sudden heart attack. His wife broke the news in a heartfelt post on Facebook, writing: “Since meeting in 1998, Lee Sansum has been my soul mate, hero, and most amazing man in my world. So I’m devastated to share that he is no longer with us. He had a fatal heart attack on Saturday morning at home”, reported the Mirror.

She also added that his presence was “huge” and will be missed “around the world as much as it is in our household,” describing the legacy he leaves behind as one filled with “love and life skills” that “will never be lost.”

Lee, known for his warmth and martial arts skills – with black belts in karate, jujitsu, and kickboxing – was affectionately called “Rambo” by Diana herself. He was part of the security team that accompanied her and the boys during a holiday to Saint-Tropez in 1997, just weeks before the tragic car crash in Paris.

In more recent years, Lee reflected on his time with Diana’s family in his 2022 book The Bodyguard. He spoke about how he attempted to teach young William and Harry some kickboxing moves, though they were a bit hesitant about the idea. What stuck more was him showing Harry how to ride a jet ski, a memory that likely brings a mix of smiles and sadness now.

Though William and Harry have drifted apart in recent years, losing someone who was such a strong presence during one of the last happy moments with their mother must have been deeply emotional for them both. Whatever their differences, grief often has a way of cutting through the noise and reconnecting people, even if just in quiet reflection.

It’s one of those reminders that behind the public lives and royal titles, the brothers are still two sons who once ran across beaches with their mum and the people who kept them safe. And when those people are gone, it leaves another hole that can’t be filled.
