Amal Reportedly ‘At Her Wits’ End’ as George Clooney Refuses to Leave New York

Amal Clooney expects to return to Europe this summer with her husband, George Clooney, once his Broadway debut in Good Night and Good Luck concludes in June. However, George is reportedly considering extending his stay in New York to pursue another stage production, raising new tensions in their nearly decade-long marriage.

According to Radar Online, conflicting priorities between the couple are placing strain on their relationship. Amal, 47, is said to be feeling drained, while George, 64, continues to chase new creative ambitions.

“They realize they can’t keep papering over the cracks,” an insider told the outlet. “Despite George’s best efforts to try and smooth-talk his way out of the situation, the fact is they have virtually been leading separate lives for quite some time.”

George has earned widespread praise for his portrayal of legendary CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow in Good Night and Good Luck. The play draws parallels between the Red Scare era and today’s political environment, highlighting the role of journalism in standing up to fear and misinformation.

The show’s official synopsis describes it as a story that “chronicles a time in American history when truth and journalistic integrity stood up to fearmongering and disinformation and won.”

Yet George’s deepening passion for the stage is reportedly clashing with Amal’s desire to return to their life in Europe. “Now, George has caught the theater bug and he’s talking about staying in New York to do another play, which has Amal at her wits’ end,” said the source.

The human rights lawyer, who moved to New York to support George’s Broadway aspirations, is reportedly unwilling to extend their U.S. stay. “That’s definitely not on her agenda,” the source explained. “She’s already sacrificed enough for him by moving to New York so he could fulfill his Broadway dream. She thinks one play is enough.”

Since marrying in 2014, the Clooneys have split their time between their homes in the South of France, Lake Como in Italy, and a country estate in England. In recent months, they’ve been living in their Manhattan apartment with their 7-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander.

George’s growing fondness for life on the East Coast, combined with Amal’s professional obligations in London and Europe, appears to be creating a rift. “George wants to stay on the East Coast, where he’s making lots of new friends and impressing old ones,” the insider added.

“As far as she’s concerned, now is the time for George to start prioritizing his life around her and the kids rather than his showbiz career,” the source said. “George is torn between the two – and therein lies the problem.”
