Bindi Irwin is on the road to recovery after undergoing multiple surgeries, including the removal of her appendix. The 26-year-old conservationist and television personality shared an update with her followers on Instagram on May 12, revealing that she had to seek medical help the day of the annual Steve Irwin Gala, an event honoring her late father.
“After many months of a grumbly appendix, I finally had to seek help the day of our Steve Irwin Gala,” Bindi wrote, alongside a video of herself in her hospital bed just an hour after surgery. She confirmed that her appendix had been successfully removed, along with “another 14 lesions” related to her ongoing battle with endometriosis. Bindi had previously had 37 endometriosis lesions and a cyst removed two years ago.

Endometriosis, a reproductive condition in which tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, has been a long-standing health issue for Bindi, who has struggled with the disease for over a decade. In addition to the appendix removal and endometriosis treatment, Bindi also underwent surgery to address a “large hernia” that she developed after childbirth four years ago.
Despite the extensive procedures, Bindi reassured her followers, saying, “Thankfully, I am on the road to recovery.” Bindi also expressed her gratitude for the support she received from her family during this difficult time. She thanked her husband, Chandler Powell, and their 4-year-old daughter, Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, as well as her brother Robert Irwin, who stepped in to host the gala after Bindi’s last-minute cancellation.
“Credit to Robert for hosting the evening, he did such an incredible job raising funds and awareness for Wildlife Warriors,” she said. “And thanks to my family for always being there for me. I have so much love for dear Chandler & sweet Grace.”

Although Bindi did not specify how long her recovery would take, she reassured fans that she would be well enough to attend another Steve Irwin Gala in Australia later this year. “Rest assured, I’ll see you at the next Steve Irwin Gala in Brisbane this November,” she promised. “One day at a time. Time to heal now.”
Bindi closed her message by sending love to her followers, expressing her appreciation for their support during this challenging time. “Sending my love to you all,” she wrote.
