Hollywood icon Tom Selleck is quietly grappling with painful arthritis and deep emotional wounds from his past, insiders reveal. The beloved star, best known for his role as Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I., is said to be dealing with both physical discomfort and lasting regrets as he enters his ninth decade.
Selleck, who turned 80 in January, is reportedly fighting through his health struggles with stoic determination. “Tom’s been to doctors and learned techniques to alleviate the pain, but it’s a disease that isn’t going to go away. He’s learning to adjust to it as best he can,” an insider told RadarOnline.

“His arthritis bothers him more some days than others. But Tom is an old-school, true professional, so he never complains about the pain.” “Tom’s a trooper, and he’s putting on a brave face. It’s painful for others to watch him,” another source said. “Until then, he’s just going to get through it in his usual macho fashion.”
But Selleck’s burdens aren’t just physical. According to sources close to the actor, he still feels the sting of an unfulfilled basketball dream and a painful divorce from his first wife, Jacki Ray.
Born in Detroit and raised in Los Angeles, Selleck won a spot on the University of Southern California basketball team after starting at LA Valley Community College. However, his playing time was minimal — just seven games in the 1965–1966 season, during which he scored only four points. The disappointment forced him to give up on a future in sports and pivot to acting.
In 1971, Selleck married Jacki Ray, who supported him through years of struggle in Hollywood. But when Magnum, P.I. became a breakout hit in 1980, fame took its toll on their relationship.

“Tom fell in love with the island and with the island girls,” a source revealed, referring to the show’s filming location in Hawaii. Jacki, unable to cope with his newfound celebrity and the accompanying temptations, ultimately filed for divorce.
“She never suspected Tom would dump her after she had stood behind him during all the lean years when he was a struggling actor looking for a major role,” said a source. The separation reportedly “crushed” Selleck and remains a source of emotional pain.
