Is This a Joke?’: Joe Biden Slammed for Making TV Comeback on The View After White House Exit

Just days after his widely criticized speech in Chicago, former President Joe Biden is set to return to the spotlight—this time on daytime television. Biden will appear on The View next Thursday, May 8, alongside former First Lady Jill Biden, marking their first official interview together since leaving the White House, according to The Daily Beast.

The announcement was made during the May 1 episode of the long-running talk show by host Whoopi Goldberg. “Next Thursday, May 8, we are honored to welcome former president Biden and First Lady Jill Biden for their very first interview since leaving the White House,” she told viewers.

However, news of Biden’s TV appearance has been met with a wave of sarcasm and ridicule across social media platforms. Users quickly took to comment sections and forums to mock the former president’s return to the public eye.

“Put Biden on TV. What could go wrong…?” one user joked. Another added, “Yep, that talent agency that he signed with is getting him on some first-class shows. Doesn’t get any better than WhopJoy!! If Joe does good, I’ll bet that we’ll be seeing him on Jimmy Kimmel sometime soon.”

Others weren’t as subtle, with one person writing, “Comeback literally no one asked for,” while another declared, “Come back from what, the worst President ever.” Another quipped, “It’s like the jokes just write themselves,” and one user even mocked his age, saying, “Grandpa’s grand tour before permanent skilled nursing facility.”

Biden has kept a relatively low profile since leaving office, appearing at a few select events, including a Model United Nations conference, a St. Patrick’s Day brunch, and a union gathering where he accepted a lifetime achievement award from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Aides describe his post-presidency as a time for “reconnecting, rebuilding, and reflecting.”

Yet his recent speech in Chicago has reignited criticism, not only from political commentators but also from cultural critics. While recalling his childhood in Scranton, Biden used an outdated term when referencing Black children. “I remember seeing the kids going by at the time, called colored kids on a bus going by,” he said, a remark that drew immediate backlash online.

As Biden heads into his high-profile appearance on The View, critics and supporters alike are watching closely, though for very different reasons.
