Renowned human rights lawyer Amal Clooney may soon face serious travel restrictions between Europe and the United States, following her involvement in a high-profile International Criminal Court (ICC) case. According to The Financial Times, Clooney is among a group of top British barristers who have been warned by the UK Foreign Office about potential U.S. sanctions for advising the ICC in a war crimes case against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.
The warning follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s Executive Order 14203, titled Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court, which targets individuals working with the ICC in cases deemed hostile to U.S. interests or those of key allies like Israel.

The executive order states that the ICC has “engaged in illegitimate and baseless actions targeting America and our close ally Israel.” It continues, accusing the court of asserting jurisdiction without cause and “abusing its power by issuing baseless arrest warrants.” The order makes clear that anyone deemed responsible may face “tangible and significant consequences,” including travel bans, asset freezes, and restricted entry into the United States for themselves and their families.
Amal Clooney, 47, is no stranger to international legal cases, with a career spanning major human rights issues. Born in Lebanon and raised in the UK, she holds degrees from Oxford and NYU and is admitted to the bar in both New York and England and Wales.

Meanwhile, George Clooney has acknowledged the 17-year age gap in their relationship, telling The New York Times, “I was 17 years older and she seemed to have everything she needed. I didn’t think I would have much of a chance.”
