28-year-old Augusta man fatally shot while sitting in car, ninth homicide of the year

A 28-year-old Augusta man, A’kki Pauley, was fatally shot Wednesday morning while sitting in a vehicle on the 1900 block of Dabney Drive, authorities confirmed. Pauley was transported by a private vehicle to Wellstar MCG Health, where he was pronounced dead at 11:34 a.m., according to Coroner Mark Bowen.

Darryl Carter, a resident and friend of Pauley, said he was at the hospital when Pauley was brought in. “His brother carried Pauley into the hospital,” Carter recounted. The incident also left a second victim injured. At approximately 11:02 a.m., the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting on Dabney Drive.

Authorities discovered an adult male victim on the 1800 block of Cooney Circle, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital for treatment. Pauley, the second victim, was driven to the hospital by a private vehicle but later succumbed to his injuries, said Richmond County Sheriff’s Sgt. John Perry.

“The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released,” Perry added. The shooting marks Richmond County’s ninth recorded homicide this year. Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive or identified any suspects in the case.
