Trump Slams The Atlantic, Calls Magazine ‘Third Rate’ in Online Rant

President Donald Trump lashed out Monday at the award-winning magazine The Atlantic, calling the publication “third rate” and attacking two of its staffers, whom he accused of being “terrible,” biased, and members of the “radical left.” Trump took to his Truth Social platform to criticize The Atlantic for requesting an interview with him.

“Third Rate Magazine, ‘The Atlantic,’ that made up the ‘Suckers and Losers’ Hoax about me and the Military, and refused to even acknowledge the vast horde of people who emphatically denied this FAKE STORY, has asked me to do an interview,” Trump wrote.

The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg previously cited anonymous sources with direct knowledge of Trump’s comments to report that, in 2018, Trump canceled a scheduled visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris “because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead.”

“In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, ‘Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers,’” the report alleged. “In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as ‘suckers’ for getting killed.”

On Monday afternoon, Trump specifically targeted The Atlantic staff writer Ashley Parker, a three-time Pulitzer Prize winner and former White House bureau chief for The Washington Post. “Ashley Parker is not capable of doing a fair and unbiased interview. She is a Radical Left Lunatic and has been as terrible as is possible for as long as I have known her,” Trump wrote.

Trump took issue with Parker for not accepting his baseless claim that he won the 2020 presidential election over Joe Biden. “To this date, she doesn’t even know that I won the Presidency THREE times,” he continued. “If you have some other reporter, let us know, but Ashley is not capable or competent enough to understand the intricacies of High-Level politics.”

Trump then turned his criticism toward another Atlantic staff writer and former Washington Post journalist, Michael Scherer. “Likewise, Michael Scherer has never written a fair story about me, only negative, and virtually always LIES. The Atlantic is doing terribly, losing a fortune, and will hopefully fold up and be gone in the not-too-distant future. It has absolutely no credibility and would be far better off, in terms of ‘journalism,’ to cease publication.

Nevertheless, when you have a writer with intelligence, competence, and fairness, please let me know!” Trump concluded. The Atlantic has not publicly responded to Trump’s remarks.
