CNN’s Brianna Keilar and Jim Sciutto Highlight the Similarities Between Trump’s Rhetoric and Putin’s

CNN’s Brianna Keilar and Jim Sciutto on Wednesday highlighted an alarming trend in President Donald Trump’s rhetoric, noting its growing similarity to that of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

After Keilar read Trump’s social media post from earlier in the day—where he threatened Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and accused him of being a “dictator”—she remarked, “Trump sounds like Putin.”

“Yeah,” Sciutto agreed. “It’s not just an overlap of talking points here from Trump and Putin, it is a mirror image of those talking points.” Sciutto further pointed out that Trump falsely blamed Ukraine for the war, despite the fact that Russia initiated an unprovoked invasion more than three years ago.

He emphasized that Trump’s claim that Zelenskyy was a “dictator” was particularly concerning. “Remember [Putin] said that Zelenskyy was a Nazi and created this whole Nazi threat there, which doesn’t exist and is also just an asinine point to make, given that Putin is an actual dictator… who killed his opponent,” Sciutto said.

“I mean, he goes so far as to kill his opponent, poisoning Alexei Navalny, having his spy services do that. So we now have the U.S. president endorsing Kremlin positions on this war.”

The comparison between Trump’s rhetoric and Kremlin propaganda has drawn widespread attention, with critics warning that such statements undermine U.S. foreign policy and support for Ukraine. As the conflict continues, concerns remain over the impact of Trump’s messaging on America’s global alliances.
