Generation Beta Begins as New Era Sparks Humor and Debate Over Next Wave of Youth

January 1 marks the beginning of a new generation: Generation Beta. This shift signals the end of Generation Alpha, typically considered to include those born in the early 2010s. According to reports, anyone born from 2025 through 2039 will officially belong to Gen Beta, ushering in a new era for the youngest members of society.

However, the name “Generation Beta” has already sparked criticism and even some humorous backlash across social media. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) jokingly suggested, “Hmm can we workshop the name please?” on Bluesky, adding that these future children would be “bullied by the skibidi kids.”

Business Insider’s Katie Notopoulos also weighed in with a lighthearted take, writing, “I’m sorry but it is just empirically funny that kids born starting tomorrow will be ‘Generation Beta.’” Others took to social media to poke fun at the label, with University of Utah professor and researcher Alessandro Rigolon referencing an encounter with someone who had once labeled him a “beta” for riding a bike, USA Today reported.

“A self-proclaimed alpha male on Twitter once called me a beta for riding a bike,” Rigolon quipped on Bluesky. “Let’s hope he’s right and generation Beta rides bikes in huge numbers.”

Despite the playful pushback, experts predict that the children of Gen Beta will grow up in a world where artificial intelligence is deeply integrated into their daily lives. Some may even live long enough to witness the 22nd century, according to NBC News.

As Gen Beta begins its journey, the world will be watching how this new generation navigates the rapid advancements in technology and the evolving societal landscape that will shape their lives.
