Chilling Scene Unfolds as Husband Shoots Wife Before Taking His Own Life in Front of Daughter

A devastating domestic incident in Portage, Indiana, has left a mother dead, her daughter critically injured, and the suspected gunman, her husband, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police reported. The tragedy unfolded in a residential home and has been described as a murder-suicide.

Brandy Manville, 46, was fatally shot by her husband, Charles Manville, 45, who was found deceased at the scene. Their 21-year-old daughter, who was also shot, was discovered alive and rushed to a nearby hospital. She was later airlifted to a trauma center, where she remains in critical condition. Authorities have stated that her injuries are life-threatening but that she is currently stable.

The chilling 911 call leading up to the shootings revealed a chaotic and violent situation. According to police, the caller—believed to be the couple’s daughter—reported that her father was intoxicated, throwing objects in the house, and had armed himself with a firearm. Operators overheard Charles shouting, “Everyone is going to die,” before gunfire erupted, coinciding with officers arriving at the scene.

Police from multiple agencies forced entry into the home after hearing shots fired. Inside, they found Charles Manville deceased along with his wife and daughter. Charles Manville, who worked as an administrative assistant at Portage High School, left the community shocked and grieving.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are continuing their investigation. In a heartfelt statement, local police extended their sympathies: “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victims of this shocking crime.”

Brandy Manville, described as a dedicated and compassionate individual, was remembered fondly by those who knew her. Portage High School Principal Michael Stills expressed the profound impact of the loss on students and staff. “I have 2,200 kids. Almost every one of them knows who Mrs. Manville is,” he told WGN News.

“As you might understand, it’s going to be whatever the kids need as much. As we preach education, it will be secondary this week.” The tragic incident has left the Portage community grappling with the loss of a beloved mother and educator and praying for the recovery of the young woman fighting for her life.
