The 37-year-old was outside the wedding venue when a possible road rage incident escalated, leading to his death, according to the Greensboro Police Department.
The incident occurred late on Saturday, October 12, and was reported just before 9 p.m. Police responded to the scene at an event center, where they found Burton in the parking lot with life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts by emergency crews, Burton later died from his injuries, according to a news release from the police.
“This was supposed to be one of the happiest moments of his life, and it turned into something tragic,” said Brittany Burton, Tyrek’s sister, in an interview with WGHP.
Just seven hours earlier, Tyrek had married Kiara Holloway, according to local news reports. The couple had been together for over a decade and shared a deep bond, finally tying the knot in a celebration that quickly turned into a nightmare.
Relatives explained that Burton had briefly left his wedding reception before being followed by another driver who accused him of cutting him off in traffic. The situation escalated, and Burton was fatally shot in front of his new wife, WXII reported.
Tyrek Burton is remembered as a devoted father to four daughters and a loving husband. His family is heartbroken and searching for answers. “He was nothing but good, and I demand justice,” said Carolyn Burton, the groom’s mother, in an emotional plea to WFMY. “I demand it. I don’t want to wait years for it. He doesn’t deserve what he got.”
