Prince William has reportedly received approval from King Charles to make a significant decision regarding the future status of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle within the royal family, including the potential removal of their royal titles. According to a new report by Radar Online, King Charles has given the Prince of Wales the authority to take action against the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, though the monarch himself is hesitant to do so directly.
A palace insider claimed that Charles fears public backlash if he were to revoke their titles, despite ongoing tension between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family. The source suggested that William, however, is not as reluctant and is biding his time until he ascends to the throne.
“As far as William is concerned, Harry left on his own terms, he lives in America, and he obviously doesn’t want to be a royal anymore,” said one insider. “At this point, William would never allow Harry to be in line for the British throne, and he’s ready to take the measures to ensure that.”
The insider added that Prince William is still deeply upset over Harry and Meghan’s public criticisms of the monarchy since stepping back from royal duties in 2020. The couple’s interviews, Netflix series, and Harry’s memoir Spare have all fueled tensions, with William reportedly taking their attacks personally.

“William is waiting for the day he will take over the throne to get back at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex over their public attacks against the royal family,” a source claimed. “He is determined to strip them of their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles once he becomes king.”
So far, King Charles has not taken official action against Harry and Meghan despite mounting pressure from royal commentators and some members of the public. Instead, Charles has reportedly delegated the matter to his eldest son, possibly as a strategic move to preserve his own image while allowing William to take a firmer stance.
The potential removal of royal titles from Harry and Meghan would mark a dramatic shift in their already distanced relationship with the monarchy. While they continue to use their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles publicly, the growing friction within the royal family suggests that may not last.
Though no timeline has been confirmed, the source emphasized that Prince William views the move as both necessary and inevitable—a step he is willing to take to protect the integrity and future of the British monarchy.
