“Why Do They Always Skip?” Prince William and Kate Middleton will not be joining King Charles at the Easter gathering

Prince William and Kate Middleton have decided to skip this year’s traditional Easter gathering at Windsor Castle, a move that has stirred criticism from some royal watchers and supporters of King Charles.

The Prince and Princess of Wales informed King Charles that they will not be attending the annual family event, which the monarch, as head of the Church of England, traditionally leads with a church service on Easter Sunday. Instead, the couple plans to spend the weekend privately with their three children at their country home in Norfolk, The Mirror reported.

While the reason behind the decision is understood to be family time, the announcement has triggered backlash from critics who question the couple’s absence during moments when the royal family could benefit from a united public front.

“Their decision not to attend has upset some supporters of King Charles,” one report noted, with critics pointing out that William and Kate have frequently missed key royal events under the banner of ‘family time’—even as they’ve carried out solo engagements elsewhere.

This latest criticism comes just days after Kensington Palace released a special video of Kate Middleton, highlighting her love for nature. The short film, reportedly shot last month, showcases the Princess of Wales engaging with the outdoors, despite her ongoing recovery from cancer treatment.

French media outlets also reported spotting Kate on Tuesday as she crossed Kensington Gardens to board a helicopter, though the purpose of the trip remains undisclosed. An undated video of her appearance was also posted to social media by the same outlet.

Kate, who revealed earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy, is reportedly in remission and gradually returning to public life. Her health journey has garnered an outpouring of public support, with many understanding her need for rest and recovery.

Still, some observers believe the couple’s absence from such a significant family occasion sends the wrong message during a time when King Charles is also undergoing cancer treatment and working to maintain stability within the royal family.

As the Easter weekend unfolds, the spotlight remains on Windsor — and on the growing questions surrounding the Prince and Princess of Wales’ role in the future of the monarchy.
