Prince William has announced a new royal patronage, marking a proud moment in his charitable work—but also casting a shadow over his estranged brother Prince Harry, who recently stepped down from one of his most personal charity commitments.
The Prince of Wales, recently appointed by King Charles, shared his excitement over becoming the new patron of We Are Farming Minds, a Herefordshire-based mental health charity dedicated to supporting farmers. The announcement was made through a statement released by Kensington Palace on Wednesday.

“Delighted to become Patron of @wearefarmingminds,” the statement began. “Founded by Duchy of Cornwall tenants Sam and Emily Stables, this brilliant charity provides training, events, information, support and advice on mental health to farmers in Herefordshire and beyond.”
The message continued, highlighting the importance of the cause: “The link with We Are Farming Minds forms a crucial part of the Duchy’s rural mental health strategy, which aims to prioritise and destigmatise mental health support for farmers and tenants.”
“With all the external pressures faced by farmers, it has never been more important to break the stigma and support better mental health. Thanks for hosting a great conversation, @vicknhope.” The announcement came just a day after Prince Harry revealed he would be stepping down as patron of Sentebale, the charity he co-founded in 2006 with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in memory of their late mothers—Princess Diana and Queen ‘Mamohato Bereng Seeiso.

The organization, which supports children and young people affected by HIV in southern Africa, has been close to Harry’s heart for nearly two decades. Harry’s decision to resign followed reported internal conflict with the charity’s chair, Dr. Sophie Chandauka. The move marks yet another severed tie between the Duke of Sussex and his royal roots, especially significant as Sentebale was one of the few patronages he retained after stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
While William continues to embrace new roles and responsibilities within the royal family, Harry’s departure from Sentebale underscores the growing emotional and institutional distance between the once-close brothers. As William forges ahead with causes aligned to his future as King, Harry appears to be letting go of key connections that once defined his royal identity.
