Meghan Markle has reignited tensions with the Royal Family, according to royal commentators, just as Prince Harry is reportedly making efforts to repair his fractured relationship with his father, King Charles.
The fresh wave of controversy stems from Meghan’s appearance on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, where the Duchess of Sussex opened up about her new lifestyle brand, As Ever, her return to social media, and the long-standing public narrative surrounding her.
During the interview, host Emma Grede asked Meghan whether she would rewrite the public’s perception of her if given the chance. “Yes, I’ll ask people to tell the truth,” Meghan responded pointedly. She added, “A lie can’t live forever. Eight years is a long time, but not forever.”
The remark has been widely interpreted as a subtle jab at the Royal Family and their handling of past events, especially those involving the Sussexes’ exit from royal duties and the media firestorm that followed.
Royal commentator Lee Cohen weighed in during a conversation with Express, suggesting Meghan’s comments could once again harm Prince Harry’s efforts to rebuild bridges with his family. “Some have suggested Markle saying in the podcast, ‘a lie can’t last forever’ was a swipe at the Royal Family,” Cohen noted.
He went further, criticizing the Duchess for what he perceives as lingering resentment: “If so, it means that despite claiming to have moved on, her bitterness is still present. But she has nothing to be bitter against but her own disgraceful behaviour.”
Cohen also accused Meghan of exploiting the ongoing royal rift for continued public interest, calling her a “sad tale of desperation and tireless rebranding.” He added, “Her association with the royals keeps her in the headlines.”
The timing of Meghan’s comments is particularly notable, as they follow recent reports that Prince Harry is seeking to extend an olive branch to the Royal Family.
