After 19 months of estrangement, Prince Harry reunited with King Charles for a carefully managed 54-minute meeting at Clarence House last week, sparking renewed speculation of a royal reconciliation.
According to insiders, the Duke of Sussex, 41, offered a rare apology to his father, acknowledging the hurtful remarks made by him and his wife, Meghan Markle, since their 2020 departure from royal duties.
“It was the first time in a long while Harry actually said sorry,” a source revealed. “He told his father he regretted how certain things played out, especially in public. Charles listened, but whether he truly believed it is another matter.”

Emotional Call With Meghan and Lilibet
During the meeting, Harry reportedly suggested a FaceTime call with Meghan, 44, and their daughter, Lilibet, 4. It marked the first conversation between Charles and Meghan in nearly two years.
“It was short but sweet. Meghan took the call and briefly spoke to Charles,” the source explained. “Then Lilibet was put on to say hello. It was emotional. Harry was eager to show his father and Meghan that there’s still a family connection, that they could end the toxic feud and rebuild through the children.”
Public Engagements During UK Visit
Following the meeting, Harry attended a delayed Invictus Games reception, smiling and telling reporters his father was “great.” His four-day UK trip also included the WellChild charity awards, a donation announcement to Children in Need, and a visit to the Centre for Blast Injury Studies.

He ended the trip by supporting a charity in memory of Princess Diana. A spokesperson for Harry said, “He’s obviously loved being back in the UK, catching up with old friends, colleagues, and just generally being able to support the incredible work of the causes that mean so much to him.”
Absent Royals and Lingering Tensions
Notably absent from the reunion were Prince William and Kate Middleton, both 43, who were in Cardiff for World Suicide Prevention Day. Queen Camilla, 78, was also not present.
Insiders say Charles was willing to meet, but others in the family remain cautious. “The call was touching, yes, but nobody believes a quick hello from Lilibet can erase years of pain,” one source said. “William is the one Harry needs to crack. He’s the future of the monarchy, and he’s not budging.”

The family rift began when Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and later made damaging claims in interviews, a Netflix series, and Harry’s memoir, Spare. While recent peace talks have fueled hopes of reconciliation, some believe Harry has other motives.
“Palace insiders think he’s trying to shoehorn his way back in,” a source added. “In 2027, the Invictus Games return to the UK, and Harry is desperate for royal backing. But without William’s support, it won’t carry the same weight. And William isn’t shifting.”
