Prince Andrew Requests Frogmore Cottage in Exchange for Leaving Royal Lodge Home

Just after agreeing not to use his royal titles or honors publicly, Prince Andrew has reportedly made a surprising request to King Charles — one that also involves Prince Harry’s former residence. According to The Sun, a potential “house-for-a-house” arrangement is being discussed between the brothers.

Prince Andrew, who has lived at Royal Lodge since his wedding day, is said to be seeking permission to move into Frogmore Cottage, previously occupied by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The 30-bedroom Royal Lodge has long been a source of tension within the royal family.

With growing debate over Andrew’s right to remain there, the Duke of York is believed to have accepted that his time at the estate is nearing an end. A friend told the outlet, “Andy is willing to leave, but these are his demands. He is realistic and knows the writing is on the wall and that his time at Royal Lodge is up.”

The source added that Andrew has also requested that his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, be allowed to move into Adelaide Cottage. That property is currently associated with the Prince and Princess of Wales, who are expected to relocate next month to Forest Lodge. “No one is really sure how it’s going to go down at the Palace yet,” the friend added. “If he must go then he has asked for Frogmore Cottage.”

Frogmore Cottage, located on the Windsor estate, was granted to Harry and Meghan by the late Queen Elizabeth II after their marriage in 2018. The couple officially vacated the property earlier this year, after being asked to return the keys following their move to the United States.

The renewed scrutiny over Andrew’s living arrangements comes amid ongoing fallout from the allegations made against him by his late accuser, who passed away in April 2025. Her memoir, released posthumously in October, reignited public interest in the scandal and renewed pressure on the royal family to distance themselves from Andrew.

Royal commentators say the palace is eager to bring closure to the situation. Former BBC royal correspondent Peter Hunt wrote in The Observer that “the royals will be desperate to resolve the Andrew question. From their perspective, the ideal outcome of this, their fourth attempt in six years, would be for Andrew and Sarah Ferguson (his ex-wife, who still lives with him) to move to private accommodation involving no taxpayer money and for the lodge to be rented by a non-royal.”

While no final decision has been made, the discussions mark another step in King Charles’s effort to streamline the monarchy and minimize controversy surrounding his brother’s role and royal privileges.
