Despite stepping away from public royal duties following multiple scandals, including high-profile sexual assault allegations, Prince Andrew reportedly continues to maintain a quiet but consistent role behind the scenes at the Palace.
According to a new report, the “disgraced” Duke of York still holds a discreet presence within royal circles and is believed to have “a part to play,” even though he has been removed from official appearances and ceremonial duties.
An insider told the Daily Mail that Andrew continues to attend private royal gatherings, including informal lunches, and occasionally assists with entertaining guests when senior royals are unavailable. While his involvement is far from public-facing, it suggests he has not been entirely exiled from royal life.
Writing for the publication, columnist Ephraim Hardcastle noted, “My source whispers that Andrew is sometimes on hand to help entertain guests, especially on days when other royals are thin on the ground, although dressed in his best bib and tucker, he isn’t allowed to join them on the course.”
“At least he is spared the washing up,” Hardcastle added, alluding to the Duke’s behind-the-scenes presence during private events such as Royal Ascot, from which he has been formally excluded.
Despite King Charles III’s reported efforts to further distance Andrew from royal privileges—including reported pressure for him to vacate Royal Lodge—he continues to reside at the estate with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. The King had allegedly proposed relocating Andrew to Frogmore Cottage, the former UK residence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but the Duke has so far resisted the move.
Andrew’s ongoing presence in royal affairs, albeit quietly, has stirred debate among palace observers. While many view his withdrawal from public life as necessary and appropriate given the gravity of the allegations against him, others point to the complexities of royal family dynamics and internal loyalties that may be keeping him within certain inner circles.
