Meghan Markle Reportedly Saw Marrying Prince Harry as a Stepping Stone to Fame and Fortune

Meghan Markle never intended to remain in the Royal Family for the long term, according to a royal expert citing inside sources close to the late Queen Elizabeth II. The Duchess of Sussex, who married Prince Harry in a globally televised ceremony in 2018, allegedly viewed her royal status as a means to achieve greater fame and success beyond the monarchy.

This claim has been reinforced by Lady Elizabeth Anson, a close confidante of Queen Elizabeth II, according to author and journalist Sally Bedell Smith. Speaking to the media, a royal commentator reflected on Anson’s reported view, saying, “I think, unfortunately, that confirms what I’ve been saying or thought for the last few years—that, sadly, Meghan never really had any intention of staying in the Royal Family.”

“She saw [it] as a stepping stone getting married to Harry… to new fame and fortune,” the expert added. This perspective aligns with long-standing speculation that Meghan had ambitions beyond royal duty, and that her marriage into the monarchy was part of a larger personal plan.

According to the expert, this mindset may have played a significant role in the rift between Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William. “And I think that’s what initially Prince William was concerned about,” the expert continued. “And that’s why they fell out.

And now we are where we are. But to have this confirmed by somebody so close to the Queen is really dynamite.” The insight from Lady Elizabeth Anson, a figure widely respected within royal circles, adds weight to ongoing discussions about the Sussexes’ departure from royal life.

Meghan and Harry stepped back from official duties in early 2020, eventually relocating to California, where they have since pursued commercial ventures including media production, public speaking, and brand partnerships.

Their exit, widely known as “Megxit,” marked one of the most dramatic shifts in modern royal history and has left a trail of speculation, public opinion, and strained family ties in its wake. While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have spoken openly about their struggles within the royal institution, particularly concerning media pressure and personal well-being, critics argue that their post-royal life appears to align with a broader strategy focused on personal branding and global influence.

With revelations like these continuing to emerge, the legacy of their time within the royal family—and the motives behind their departure—remains a subject of fascination and fierce debate.
