Meghan Markle has opened up about a private and frightening health battle she experienced after giving birth, shedding light on her diagnosis of postpartum preeclampsia. The revelation comes as the British royal family continues to face a wave of concern following recent cancer announcements from King Charles and Princess Kate.
The Duchess of Sussex shared the emotional story during the debut episode of her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, released on April 8. In the episode, Meghan sat down with Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of a leading dating app, for a candid conversation about the realities of building a business while navigating the challenges of motherhood.

The two women, who welcomed their children around the same time, bonded over the intense physical and emotional toll of early motherhood, revealing they both suffered from a rare condition. “We both had very similar experiences — though we didn’t know each other at the time — with postpartum, and we both had preeclampsia. Postpartum preeclampsia.
It’s so rare and so scary,” Meghan said on the podcast. She continued, “And you’re still trying to juggle all of these things, and the world doesn’t know what’s happening quietly. And in the quiet, you’re still trying to show up for people – mostly for your children — but those things are huge medical scares.”

Meghan’s comments mark a rare public disclosure of a personal health issue, and her timing has drawn attention, as the royal family grapples with serious medical challenges. Both King Charles and the Princess of Wales are currently undergoing cancer treatment, casting a somber mood over the monarchy and drawing global attention.
The Duchess’s statement has resonated with many listeners, particularly women who have faced similar struggles. Postpartum preeclampsia is a serious condition that can occur after childbirth, causing high blood pressure and other complications. If left untreated, it can lead to life-threatening consequences for new mothers.
