Meghan Markle’s continued decision to conceal her children’s faces from public view has sparked fresh commentary from a royal expert, who believes the move is part of a deliberate strategy.
The Duchess of Sussex, who occasionally shares images of her daughter Princess Lilibet with her face partially obscured, has chosen to keep both her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, largely out of the public eye since stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
Veteran royal photographer and expert Arthur Edwards shared his thoughts on the matter in The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, expressing confusion over the family’s guarded approach to privacy.
“I don’t know why we can’t see the children’s faces,” Edwards said. He went on to suggest that Meghan may have future plans tied to the controlled release of her children’s images, though he admitted it remains speculation.
“I think she’s obviously got some sort of scheme there where she might want some money ties on one day, I don’t know,” he added. Edwards also expressed sympathy for the young royals, who he believes are being deprived of opportunities to connect with their extended royal family in the United Kingdom.
“But those children, I feel sorry for them really. I mean, they’ve got cousins here, they’re never going to meet and never going to play with,” he said. “There are palaces here and castles here that they could enjoy as well and spend summer holidays with their cousins. I feel really sorry for them, cooped up in that place.”
The couple currently resides in Montecito, California, far from royal life and its ceremonial traditions. Their decision to raise their children away from the British royal spotlight has been both praised for prioritizing privacy and criticized for breaking with public expectations surrounding royal transparency.
When asked if the public might ever see the children’s faces in full, Edwards offered a tongue-in-cheek prediction. “Will we ever see their faces? I don’t know, maybe one day she’ll produce a calendar or something of her children’s faces and that’ll be sort of another Meghan special,” he remarked.
Markle and Prince Harry have remained largely private about their family life since leaving the U.K., continuing to navigate the tension between public interest and their desire for a more secluded lifestyle. Whether their children will one day step into public view remains uncertain.
