Meghan Markle may soon face a reckoning for her past criticisms of the Royal Family, according to a royal expert who believes Prince William will take a much firmer stance than his father, King Charles. The Duchess of Sussex has often been at the center of controversy following her and Prince Harry’s departure from royal duties in 2020.
Now living in California with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the couple has made headlines with candid interviews and a Netflix docuseries detailing their grievances with the monarchy—accusations that include claims of racism and emotional neglect.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, speaking to Sky News Australia host Gabriella Power, said that while King Charles III is unlikely to confront Meghan over past actions, Prince William may not be as forgiving once he ascends the throne.
“I don’t think that we’ll see King Charles do this because he’s not confrontational,” Schofield stated. “You just wait until Prince William is King. I think he’s going to put his handsome foot down, and he is going to rock Meghan Markle’s world. Meghan Markle is going to be humbled very quickly.”

Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down from their roles as senior royals in early 2020, a move widely referred to as “Megxit.” Their decision marked a significant rupture within the Royal Family, further inflamed by high-profile interviews—most notably with Oprah Winfrey—where they discussed strained family dynamics and alleged mistreatment.
The rift has only deepened over time, with limited contact between Harry and senior royals. While King Charles has taken a relatively diplomatic approach in public, rarely addressing the couple’s criticisms directly, some royal watchers believe Prince William may feel more compelled to take a firm position once he becomes monarch.
Schofield’s comments tap into long-standing speculation about William’s growing frustration with his younger brother and sister-in-law. As the future King, William is expected to modernize the monarchy while preserving its traditions—a balance that may not easily include Harry and Meghan’s highly independent and outspoken public lives.
For now, Harry and Meghan continue to live outside the royal fold, focusing on philanthropic projects, media ventures, and raising their young family. But according to Schofield and other commentators, a change in royal leadership could bring new challenges for the Duchess of Sussex—and perhaps a reckoning for past controversies.
