Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are once again under the spotlight, and this time it’s not for another glitzy appearance or a new media venture. With their high-profile Spotify deal falling apart and their paths seemingly diverging, the couple has been urged to tread more carefully in the public eye.
After what many see as a series of missteps in recent years, from that explosive Oprah interview to deals that haven’t quite landed as planned, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are being given a bit of a reality check by royal insiders.

Speaking to the Mail, seasoned royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams didn’t mince his words when discussing the couple’s current dynamic. He believes that while there’s no question of affection between Harry and Meghan, they don’t always see eye to eye when it comes to priorities.
“Harry is increasingly finding himself as the spare in a relationship with Meghan, which undoubtedly involves mutual affection, but where their priorities differ widely,” Fitzwilliams explained.

It’s not the first time the couple has been accused of being on different pages. Meghan has been carving out her own lane, often focused on the glitzier side of fame. Fitzwilliams didn’t hold back, adding, “Meghan likes glitz and glamour and is absolutely ruthless as the interview on Oprah showed so clearly. Because she married Harry, her brand does have reach.”

The suggestion here is clear: Meghan’s strategy leans more towards the spotlight, while Harry’s heart is still very much tied to causes close to home, especially those that predate their Hollywood chapter.
In fact, Fitzwilliams offered a bit of advice for the prince, hinting that perhaps it’s time to refocus on what truly matters to him. “Invictus means a lot to him; it was a joy to see him at the WellChild Awards last year,” he noted, highlighting Harry’s genuine connection to his charitable work.
The Sussexes have often talked about creating a life of purpose and service outside the royal institution, but with major projects either stalling or sparking controversy, the pressure is mounting. Their brand is undoubtedly powerful, but it’s also facing a crossroads, with critics and fans alike wondering what comes next.
For now, the couple remains in the headlines, but the message from royal watchers seems consistent: proceed with caution, and maybe, just maybe, learn from the past.
