King Charles has reportedly encouraged Prince William and Princess Kate to step back from their demanding royal schedules and focus on spending more quality time together in the wake of Kate’s cancer diagnosis and recovery.
According to Life & Style, the Prince and Princess of Wales are planning to “tone down” their typically hectic pace of royal duties as they prepare for their eventual roles as king and queen. The decision comes with the full support of King Charles, who is said to be sensitive to their circumstances, especially given his own ongoing battle with cancer.
A royal insider told the publication that Prince William took on a heavy burden during Kate’s illness, which has understandably taken an emotional toll. “William really stepped up during Kate’s illness. He took on so many extra duties even in the midst of dealing with a sick wife,” the source said. “It’s what had to be done, and he got on with it, but it certainly took a huge toll.”
Now that the Princess of Wales is reportedly feeling stronger and the immediate fear surrounding her health has eased, the couple is said to be turning their focus inward, choosing to embrace their “second chance at life together.” The insider also revealed that Prince William consulted with King Charles about adjusting their workload and received approval to ease off their intense schedule.

“Charles doesn’t want to see William burn out, and he certainly doesn’t want to overload Kate when she’s still fragile,” the source noted. King Charles, who was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer last year and remains in treatment, is reportedly especially empathetic toward Kate’s health journey.
“No doubt Charles’ own battle with cancer has made him especially sensitive to what Kate has gone through,” the insider explained. “He’s told her and William to take whatever time they need.” While the royal couple won’t withdraw completely from public life, they do intend to scale back slightly in order to cherish more time as a family.
“They won’t go overboard, but they are very keen to pull back a little so they can focus on each other more,” the source added. “That means more romantic dinners, more long walks, and more holidays.” The move reflects a more human side of royal life — one that prioritizes personal well-being and emotional resilience as the couple balances duty with the need to care for each other and their young family.
