King Charles has made it clear to Prince William, the Prince of Wales, that he remains firmly in control of the monarchy, despite recent tensions and ongoing health concerns.
Reports suggest the King and his eldest son are locked in what insiders call a “power struggle,” highlighted by Charles’ decision to hold a private reconciliation meeting with Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, while deliberately leaving William out.
Harry and Charles met in the UK last week at Clarence House, marking their first face-to-face discussion since February 2024. Sources say William’s exclusion was intentional and meant to send a powerful message.

A source told RadarOnline, “Charles wanted to make it absolutely clear that he is still in charge.” The source continued, “Leaving William out of the talks wasn’t an oversight – it was deliberate. Even though he knows one day the crown will pass to his son, Charles is showing that the monarchy is his to run for as long as he reigns.”
Royal commentator Ian Pelham-Turner echoed this view, noting the deliberate nature of the exclusion. “The important issue is that Prince William and his representatives were not invited. I feel that this was a warning shot across William’s bows that Charles is king, not him,” he said.
Pelham-Turner added, “It may also be a stark warning that Charles will decide what happens during his reign, not William.” While Prince William reportedly has no interest in reconciling with his brother, sources close to the palace revealed he may have little influence over Harry’s ongoing interactions with their father.
“The palace wants to control the narrative, and that means making sure William is not calling the shots,” one insider said. “Charles is making it plain that his reign will not be dictated by his son’s agenda.” The meeting between Charles and Harry underscores the complicated dynamics within the royal family, which remain strained years after Harry and Meghan Markle’s public split from royal duties.

For Charles, the move was not only an effort to reconnect with his younger son but also a symbolic demonstration that he continues to lead decisions at the highest level of the monarchy.
The exclusion of William, who is widely expected to succeed his father in the near future, has added to speculation about how the balance of power within the royal family will shift over time. For now, however, sources stress that King Charles has no intention of ceding authority, regardless of his health or public debate about the monarchy’s future.
