Prince Harry has been issued a stark warning about the personal and reputational risks he may face if his marriage to Meghan Markle were to end, with royal experts noting the Duke of Sussex’s unusually precarious position within the royal and public spheres.
The conversation unfolded during a recent episode of The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, where News.com.au’s royal correspondent Bronte Coy joined Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson and broadcaster and royal biographer Hugo Vickers to discuss the latest developments surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

While making it clear that no confirmed issues are publicly known in Harry and Meghan’s relationship, Coy acknowledged that speculation about the couple’s future is inevitable given their prominence. “Of course, we don’t know what’s going on in their relationship, but with that said, even just speculating on that, you’d say he is someone who is in such a unique position,” Coy said during the segment.
She emphasized that very few individuals — even among royals — hold the kind of global profile that Prince Harry does. As a result, any shift in his personal life, particularly a separation from Meghan, could have far-reaching consequences for his public image and future role.
“There are only a small handful of royals and people with the kind of profile Prince Harry has,” Coy explained, adding, “You have to imagine that if that relationship did fall apart for whatever reason down the line, really, where does that leave him?”

Royal biographer Hugo Vickers contributed to the discussion, suggesting that Harry has often been “complicit in a lot of the things that have gone on,” though he noted, “I think he’s been made to do many things.”
Coy agreed with that sentiment, suggesting that fear of what life could look like without Meghan may weigh heavily on Harry’s mind. “You can imagine that he would be scared of that,” she added, implying that a separation could leave him isolated, both publicly and personally.

Since stepping down from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California with Meghan and their children, Harry has taken on a different, often controversial, role within the royal narrative. He has openly criticized the monarchy in media interviews and documentaries, and co-authored the memoir Spare, which strained relationships further within the royal family.
As speculation continues, experts warn that any disruption to Harry’s current life could be far more destabilizing than it would be for most public figures, given the delicate balance he now occupies between royalty and private citizen.
