Prince William and Kate Middleton are expected to attend a high-level royal summit this August at Balmoral, where key decisions about the future of the monarchy will be discussed, notably in the absence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
According to Closer Magazine, royal insiders have confirmed that despite ongoing health concerns, the Princess of Wales is preparing to step out of her reduced public schedule for this crucial meeting. The Balmoral Summit, held annually at the royal family’s Scottish estate, will focus on long-term planning and addressing the monarchy’s recent challenges.
“Kate is set to take some time off duties due to her health concerns,” a source told the magazine. “But there are some key events she must attend, and this is one of them.” The summit is expected to involve all senior working members of the royal family.
However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not been invited, highlighting their continued estrangement from the monarchy following their departure in 2020 and subsequent public criticisms of the royal institution. An insider revealed to Closer, “Harry and Meghan will be the main focal point of discussion at the summit, and Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s future will be looked at.”

The insider added that the royal children of Prince William and Princess Kate will also be a major topic, particularly as the monarchy begins shaping its next generation. “The future of the Wales children will also be on the agenda, as well as Kate’s position — and even Princess Eugenie and Beatrice’s ever-developing roles.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from their royal roles in early 2020, relocating to California and signing media deals while issuing public allegations against the royal family, including claims made in interviews, a Netflix series, and Prince Harry’s memoir Spare. These moves have significantly strained relations with Prince William, Princess Kate, and King Charles III.
While the summit is expected to be a pivotal moment for internal royal planning, the exclusion of Harry and Meghan underscores the growing permanence of their separation from official royal affairs. Meanwhile, Kate’s anticipated attendance, despite her reduced public appearances due to health matters, highlights the importance of the event.
As the royal family continues to navigate its future amid modern challenges and evolving public expectations, the Balmoral Summit may serve as a strategic moment to clarify roles, resolve internal tensions, and secure the long-term stability of the monarchy.
