President Donald Trump’s health became a subject of public attention once again as his visibly swollen ankles drew notice during his arrival in the United Kingdom on Tuesday night. The trip marks his second state visit to Britain since June 2019.
The president, 79, cautiously descended the steps of Air Force One, holding on to both the railing and First Lady Melania Trump. On the tarmac, he was greeted by U.S. Ambassador to the U.K. Warren Stephens, British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, and Viscount Henry Hood, representing King Charles, reports The Daily Beast.
Concerns over Trump’s ankles are not new. In July, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the president had undergone a medical evaluation. “In recent weeks, President Trump noted mild swelling in his lower legs,” she said. “In keeping with routine medical care and out of an abundance of caution, this concern was thoroughly evaluated by the White House medical unit.”

Doctors later diagnosed him with chronic venous insufficiency, a common circulatory condition where veins struggle to return blood to the heart. Dr. Sean Barbabella, Trump’s physician, assured the public that the president remained “in excellent health.” The White House also cited Ronny Jackson, Trump’s former doctor during his first term, who insisted that Trump was “the healthiest president this nation has ever seen” and was “mentally and physically sharper than ever before.”
Despite reassurances, Trump’s ankles and other signs, such as bruised hands, facial drooping, and verbal slip-ups, have fueled ongoing debate about his fitness. His health has remained a recurring theme in both media coverage and political circles.
While his physical condition made headlines, Trump faced another form of scrutiny upon arrival. Protesters projected images of him alongside convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein onto Windsor Castle, drawing attention to the pair’s past association.

The night before, activists unfurled a massive banner depicting the two men, underscoring the controversy shadowing the visit. Trump and the first lady spent their first night at Winfield House, the official residence of the U.S. ambassador in London.
On Wednesday, they are scheduled to visit Windsor Castle, a choice that Trump himself praised. “They have never used Windsor Castle like this before. They use Buckingham Palace. I don’t want to say one is better than the other, but Windsor Castle is the ultimate,” he told reporters Tuesday.
Historical records show that Ronald and Nancy Reagan stayed there during their 1982 visit. Beyond pageantry, Trump’s trip carries policy weight. He is expected to announce a multibillion-dollar economic agreement with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, covering cooperation in science, defense technology, and nuclear power.
