An author who has followed President Donald Trump’s political rise for more than a decade says she has begun to see clear signs that the president is slowing down. Her observations came during a podcast interview released on Wednesday.
Katy Tur, who chronicled Trump’s 2016 campaign in her book Unbelievable and previously covered him for MS NOW, spoke with Joana Coles on The Daily Beast Podcast. Tur said the changes have become noticeable as Trump moves through his second term, particularly in how he spends his time and how he carries himself during the workday.
Tur explained that Trump is watching less television than he did during his first administration. She recalled that aides once joked the president was “working while he watched TV,” since he often kept the television on throughout the day. According to Tur, that habit no longer seems as constant. She also noted that Trump is phoning into his favorite programs less often, a shift that stood out to those who tracked his media routines closely in the past.

“He is different from what he was,” Tur said. “He doesn’t have the same amount of energy. He’s not as coherent as he used to be. He’s always been somewhat coherent, but it’s different now. He’s slower. His speech is slower. You can see him falling asleep sometimes, or appearing to fall and fall asleep in the Oval Office.”
Tur added that the president’s workload appears lighter compared to his first term. She said the pace that once defined Trump’s day-to-day schedule has eased, and the intensity he was known for during his early years on the national stage seems diminished.
Concerns about Trump’s age have been circulating since he entered office. Now 79, the president has been seen nodding off during press conferences in the Oval Office, moments that have been widely shared and dissected online. Trump has also acknowledged taking cognitive exams, which have prompted questions from medical experts and political observers about whether he may be showing early signs of cognitive decline.
While no formal diagnosis has been made public, the topic has fueled ongoing debate about his fitness for the demanding responsibilities of the presidency. Tur’s comments add to a growing collection of accounts suggesting the president’s stamina and sharpness may not match what they once were. As Trump continues into the later years of his second term, the conversation about his health and capacity is expected to remain a significant part of the national political discussion.
