“I’m Not Good Enough?” Trump Quips After Melania Draws Bigger Cheers

President Donald Trump delivered a sharp seven-word remark after noticing the crowd seemed more enthusiastic about First Lady Melania Trump during a White House event focused on improving support for teens aging out of the foster care system.

The event opened Thursday afternoon with a speech from the First Lady, who outlined her efforts to help young people transition out of foster care with better access to education, career development, and digital resources. When the president followed her at the podium, he appeared to sense cooler energy from the audience.

“What the h—? I’m not good enough,” he said, lifting both hands in the air. His comment echoed previous moments this year when public figures, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, joked that they preferred Melania to him.

The executive order unveiled at the event aims to strengthen federal support systems for older foster youth. According to the Daily Signal, it is designed to expand access to training programs, educational opportunities, and other tools needed to help young people enter adulthood without falling into homelessness.

A former foster child and current Vice President of New York City’s Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children praised the order during an appearance on “Morning in America,” saying it will help teens avoid the instability many face after leaving the system.

Melania Trump advocated for a $25 million investment in the fiscal 2026 budget to subsidize housing and help young adults navigate the transition more safely and successfully. Her focus on children’s welfare has grown since returning to the White House earlier this year.

She has condemned Russia’s abduction of Ukrainian children, pushed legislation targeting deepfake pornography harming teenage girls, expanded her “Be Best” initiative, and launched a contest encouraging students to explore innovation and artificial intelligence in education.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the new order will reinforce the First Lady’s “Fostering the Future” program, a key pillar of Be Best. The initiative provides scholarships and educational opportunities to foster youth, particularly in fields tied to computer science.

“Scholarship recipients will learn in a supportive environment, gaining knowledge critical to realizing job security within the technology sector,” the program states. The goal is to help students gain independence and build stable futures.

National statistics highlight the ongoing need for such reforms. Only half of children in foster care graduate from high school, and just three percent complete college. Roughly twenty percent become homeless after aging out of the system, and only about half secure full-time employment by age 24.

The administration says the new order is one step toward addressing those gaps, with Melania Trump remaining at the forefront of the effort.
