During a candid moment aboard Air Force One on Tuesday, President Donald Trump shared a story that combined humor, personal commentary, and a critique of American prescription drug pricing. The remarks came during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, as Trump traveled to the Middle East.
“I told this story today, it was well-received,” Trump said. “A friend of mine – who’s slightly overweight to put it mildly – went to a drug store in London and he was able to get one of the ‘fat shots.’ I call it the ‘fat shot.’”

The offhand anecdote quickly turned into a commentary on the high cost of prescription medication in the United States. Trump used the story to bolster his claims about the need for drug price reforms, a subject he has revisited frequently.
According to Trump, the unnamed friend may have purchased “maybe Ozempic,” a medication often prescribed for diabetes but increasingly used off-label for weight loss. The man, Trump noted, was shocked by the stark difference in cost between the United States and the United Kingdom.
“He called me and said, ‘Strange thing happened, I just bought a drug – same company, same plan, same everything – everything was the same, in one case, I paid in New York $1,300, and in London I’m paying $88,’” Trump recounted.
Trump, known for his blunt speaking style, didn’t hesitate to poke fun at his friend while underscoring his broader point. “He’s a very smart guy,” Trump said. “He’s a very rich guy. His big problem is he’s seriously overweight, but I don’t think the drug worked, to be honest with you, but it makes him feel good anyway.”

The president then shifted the focus back to U.S. policy. “The drug rules are very screwed up,” Trump said. “And I’m doing something about it.”
