In a striking escalation of his long-standing criticism of the judicial branch, President Donald Trump launched a fierce verbal attack against federal judges during a Fox News interview on Tuesday, accusing some of actively undermining the nation. “We have rogue judges that are destroying our country,” Trump asserted emphatically during his conversation with Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham.
Trump’s comments followed closely after U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang issued a significant legal setback to the administration. Judge Chuang ruled that the attempt by Elon Musk’s DOGE-led initiative to close down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) was likely unconstitutional, prompting Trump’s intensified criticisms.

Ingraham, noticing the severity of Trump’s remarks, questioned him directly: “Are there circumstances where you would defy a court order?” “Well, I think number one, nobody has been through more courts than I have,” Trump replied, continuing his vocal criticism of the judicial system, particularly highlighting what he perceives as his mistreatment.
“What they’ve done to me – I’ve had the worst judges – I’ve had crooked judges…” Despite Trump’s assertions, Ingraham pressed for clarity, asking again whether Trump would ever defy a judicial mandate. “I never did defy a court order,” Trump responded, notwithstanding his administration’s documented defiance of court orders in specific immigration cases. Ingraham followed up immediately: “And you wouldn’t in the future?”
“No, you can’t do that,” Trump affirmed, pivoting quickly back to criticizing judges. “However, we have bad judges, we have very bad judges and these are judges that shouldn’t be allowed. I think at a certain point you have to start looking at, what do you do when you have a rogue judge?”

Trump intensified his criticism further, singling out Judge Chuang directly and labeling him “a lunatic.” Earlier in the same interview, Trump also criticized USAID, calling the agency “a whole big scam,” underscoring his administration’s determination to appeal the decision.
Trump, emphasizing confidence in his legal strategies, stated, “I’ve won great cases on appeals.” The contentious interview marks the latest in Trump’s pattern of increasingly aggressive rhetoric against the judiciary, an independent branch of government he frequently targets in moments of political or legal conflict.
