Donald Trump launched a vigorous critique on social media targeting New York State Supreme Court Judge Juan M. Merchan, the presiding judge in a hush-money lawsuit against him. Trump expressed his discontent on his Truth Social platform, challenging the restrictions as a breach of constitutional rights. The controversy ignited when Trump took to social media to question the fairness of the gag order, particularly highlighting what he perceived as a double standard.
“Judge Juan Merchan, who is suffering from an acute case of Trump Derangement Syndrome… has now issued another illegal, un-American, unConstitutional ‘order,’ as he continues to try and take away my Rights,” Trump complained.
“This Judge, by issuing a vicious ‘Gag Order,’ is wrongfully attempting to deprive me of my First Amendment Right to speak out against the Weaponization of Law Enforcement, including the fact that Crooked Joe Biden, Merrick Garland, and their Hacks and Thugs are tracking and following me all across the Country, obsessively trying to persecute me, while everyone knows I have done nothing wrong!”
He pointed out instances where he felt the opposition was freely expressing detrimental views against him, including a reference to Judge Merchan’s daughter’s alleged social media activity, which Trump interpreted as bias. He also criticized the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for making, in Trump’s view, unfounded accusations against him.
