Back when Barack and Michelle Obama were living in the White House, they weren’t just all business in Washington. Like any family, they carved out time for rest and recharge — and when they did, they chose one of the most picturesque spots on the East Coast to do it.
Their go-to summer escape? A stunning beachfront property on Martha’s Vineyard, which they rented during his presidency for a jaw-dropping $50,000 per week, according to the Wall Street Journal. Now, that very vacation home, once their private retreat from the pressures of public life, is officially on the market with a hefty $39 million price tag.

Honestly, it’s not hard to see why it’s priced like that. The estate is located on the iconic Blue Heron Farm, offering 30 acres of complete privacy. Perfect for a presidential family looking to dodge cameras and enjoy a normal summer day, or as close to normal as you can get with Secret Service in tow.

During their stay, Barack and Michelle, along with daughters Malia and Sasha, soaked up the kind of summer vibes most of us only dream of. When Obama first took office, the girls were just ten and eight years old — the ideal age for long, playful days outdoors. And this property had more than enough to keep them entertained.
It’s perched right on the ocean, which means the family had front-row views of the Atlantic anytime they wanted. It also came with its private dock, so boating and water activities were never far away.
From the photos, the place looks like a luxury resort. There’s a massive pool with a pool house, a spacious terrace for lounging or entertaining, and not one but both tennis and basketball courts.
Inside the main house, there are seven bedrooms and eight-and-a-half bathrooms. And if you happened to have extra guests? No problem. There’s also a guest house with five more bedrooms tucked away on the property.

After wrapping up their time in the White House in January 2017, following Donald Trump’s inauguration, the Obamas didn’t stray far. They settled in Washington, D.C., so Sasha could finish school, purchasing a beautiful mansion in the Kalorama neighborhood for $8.1 million.
That home is impressive too — a 1920s gem with nine bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a spacious garden, a terrace, a two-car garage, and a large courtyard that fits up to ten cars.
And the Obamas haven’t cut ties with Chicago either. They still own property in the city that’s close to their hearts. Michelle grew up in Chicago, and Barack launched his political career there, serving as an Illinois Senator from 1997 to 2004. It’s also the city where the couple first met while working at the law firm Sidley Austin.
So while they’ve upgraded over the years, their summer memories at Martha’s Vineyard — the ocean views, the family time, the space to breathe — are now officially up for grabs to the next lucky owner, for a cool $39 million.
