Melania Trump’s Stoic Expression and Awkward Hand-Holding with Donald Sparks Online Speculation

Melania Trump has once again sparked curiosity among fans after appearing stony-faced during a recent public outing with her husband, President Donald Trump. The First Lady was seen holding hands with the President as they exited the White House ahead of his congressional address on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

Since Trump first took office, speculation has surrounded his relationship with Melania, with many netizens sensing a certain coldness between the couple during public appearances. Her latest expressionless demeanor has done little to quell the ongoing rumors.

The brief moment of public affection between the couple caught the attention of online users, with some humorously questioning whether she was being “paid extra” for holding hands with him. As Donald and Melania Trump stepped out of the White House, they initially appeared to be holding hands, but the First Lady seemed to pull her hand away from the President’s grasp shortly after.

While she maintained a stoic expression, she did manage a smile toward waiting photographers before getting into the car, according to The Irish Star. The couple was en route to the Commander-in-Chief’s first address to a joint session of Congress at the Capitol since his inauguration in January.

Dressed in a dark gray blazer and pencil skirt, the 54-year-old Slovenian-born First Lady looked poised beside the President, who wore his signature dark blue suit. Despite the brief hand-holding moment, reactions on social media were mixed.

As CSPAN shared a short clip of the couple leaving the White House, some online users speculated about their relationship, with trolls suggesting Melania was “paid” for displaying affection. Speculation about their marriage was a recurring topic during Trump’s first term and has continued into his second.

Melania previously made headlines during her husband’s 2025 inauguration when her wide-brimmed Eric Javits hat caused an awkward moment. As Trump leaned in to kiss her cheek before ascending the podium for his inaugural address, the hat blocked the moment, resulting in an air kiss instead.

Critics seized on the incident to fuel speculation about the state of their relationship, suggesting any warmth between them was long gone. Social media was once again abuzz as users tried to decipher the meaning behind First Lady Melania Trump’s rare public display of affection toward the President as they left the White House for his congressional address.
