Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene delivered a sharp critique of Fox News and Republican leadership during a CNN interview on Tuesday, accusing the conservative network of ignoring economic struggles until it became politically unavoidable. The Georgia Republican also warned that GOP missteps on health care and government shutdowns are putting her party at risk ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Greene, a prominent MAGA-aligned lawmaker, said Fox News was late in addressing affordability, which polling consistently shows is the top concern for voters. She argued that CNN and other outlets had been discussing the issue long before conservative media began acknowledging it.
“While CNN has been talking about affordability, all of a sudden, after Republicans got crushed in that election not too long ago, Fox News is all of a sudden willing to talk about affordability because it is a crisis, and health insurance is the coming crisis that we’re trying to work on in the House right now,” Greene said. “But they waited too late.”
Her comments stood out as an unusually direct attack on Fox News from a lawmaker often associated with the network’s ideological base. Greene framed the delay as politically damaging, saying voters are already feeling the impact of rising costs while Republicans appear unprepared.

Greene also turned her criticism inward, pointing to House Speaker Mike Johnson for decisions that she says worsened the situation. She blamed the eight-week government shutdown for complicating health care negotiations and leaving Republicans scrambling as key deadlines approach.
Health care costs, Greene said, are a particularly urgent issue in her largely rural district. According to the congresswoman, roughly 75,000 of her constituents rely on Affordable Care Act subsidies to help pay for insurance. Those subsidies are set to expire soon, a move that would sharply raise costs for families already struggling with inflation and stagnant wages.
“This is a real issue,” Greene said. “But instead of working hard to come up with a solution they they have waited until the last minute, and we’re literally weeks away from those expiring.”
Greene warned that failing to act could have serious political consequences, especially in districts where voters depend heavily on government assistance to afford health care. She suggested Republicans risk appearing disconnected from everyday concerns if they continue to delay solutions.
The remarks highlight growing tension within the GOP as lawmakers balance loyalty to conservative media, party leadership, and a restless electorate focused on economic survival. Greene’s willingness to criticize Fox News on CNN also underscored broader unease among some Republicans about messaging failures after recent electoral setbacks.
With affordability and health care dominating voter priorities, Greene’s comments signal pressure on Republican leaders to act quickly or face further backlash at the ballot box.
