A 54-year-old Mexican national has been arrested after allegedly threatening to assassinate President Donald Trump in retaliation for the deportation of his family members. The suspect, identified as Ramon Morales Reyes, reportedly sent a handwritten letter to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer on Wednesday, May 21.
In the letter, Reyes is accused of vowing to “self-deport” to Mexico after carrying out a plan to shoot President Trump “in the head” during a public appearance, according to federal officials. Reyes is currently in ICE custody at a Wisconsin detention facility while awaiting the outcome of his removal proceedings, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed.

The alarming letter reportedly stated, “We are tired of this president messing with us Mexicans. We have done more for this country than you white people.” It continued, “You have been deporting my family, and I think it is time Donald J. Trump gets what he has coming to him.”
In a chilling final note, Reyes allegedly declared, “But not before I use my 30-yard 6 to shoot your precious president in the head.” U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem condemned the threat in a strongly worded statement, urging both the media and political leaders to tone down inflammatory rhetoric in the current climate of escalating political violence, reports the Mirror US.

“This threat comes not even a year after President Trump was shot in Butler, Pennsylvania, and less than two weeks after former FBI Director Comey called for the President’s assassination,” Noem said. “Thanks to our ICE officers, this illegal alien who threatened to assassinate President Trump is behind bars.”
She added, “I will continue to take all measures necessary to ensure the protection of President Trump.” According to the DHS, Reyes has a criminal record in the United States and has illegally entered the country multiple times. His criminal history includes felony hit-and-run, criminal damage to property, and disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier.

The threat comes as President Trump faces renewed political and legal battles, including a court ruling this week that blocked his attempt to impose sweeping tariffs under emergency powers. A three-judge panel at the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York found that Trump had exceeded his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
“The Worldwide and Retaliatory Tariff Orders exceed any authority granted to the President by IEEPA to regulate importation by means of tariffs,” the ruling stated, adding further legal pressure to Trump’s controversial trade legacy.
