Kamala Harris Team Accused of ‘Dark-Arts’ Plot to Undermine VP Rivals

A new political exposé claims former Vice President Kamala Harris’ team orchestrated a covert campaign to sabotage her top competitors during the 2020 vice-presidential selection process under then-presidential candidate Joe Biden.

According to FIGHT: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House, a newly released book by veteran political journalists Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, Harris’ inner circle ran what is described as a “dark-arts operation” to quietly damage the reputations of other women being considered for the VP slot. The book alleges her advisors engaged in back-channel tactics to discredit other contenders, including Susan Rice, Stacey Abrams, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and former Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

“We stabbed Karen Bass a little bit. We stabbed Susan Rice a little bit. We stabbed Stacey Abrams a little bit. We stabbed Gretchen Whitmer,” a former Harris advisor is quoted as saying to the authors. Though specific details about the alleged sabotage remain vague, the book suggests that strategic leaks and whispers behind the scenes may have swayed internal discussions during Biden’s VP search, as reported by Fox News.

Despite the alleged internal warfare, irony marked the aftermath. Several of the women reportedly targeted by Harris’ team—Bass, Abrams, and Whitmer—later campaigned for her in 2024, when she replaced Biden on the Democratic presidential ticket. Susan Rice, too, maintained her public support for the administration.

The book also reveals that Harris was “blindsided” by her eventual defeat to Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election. According to the authors, Harris believed her campaign remained competitive until the very end. Former President Barack Obama, however, reportedly hesitated to endorse her candidacy after Biden stepped aside, doubting her electability.

News of the alleged sabotage has sparked backlash online, where critics questioned Harris’ political ethics and strategy. “How about ‘we stabbed the American public in the back’ with Harris’ method of undermining other candidates,” one outraged commenter posted. “Not the least being Joe Biden, who could not see the big picture even if it was drawn out.”

Another added, “Not surprising this is all Kamala Harris could do, being a completely non-viable candidate on her own standing.” Some users mocked the field of candidates altogether. “What a list of losers. Can you imagine Bass as VP or POTUS? I want to vomit,” one post read.

Still, a few defended Harris’ maneuvering as shrewd political survival. “Well, thank goodness she did that or Trump would have been running against one of the other, much more competent, women!” wrote one user. As Harris reflects on her political journey, FIGHT paints a portrait of ambition, internal rivalries, and the high-stakes calculus behind modern-day presidential politics.
